Red Velvet Fried Oreos

I know I sound like a broken record, but any chance that I have to Red Velvetize something, I am taking it. Plus, they’re the perfect late-night snack because they take no time at all.

Fried Oreos isn’t anything new, we all love them, but I don’t think people really know how EASY they are to make at home. Frozen Oreos, Pancake Mix, and Powdered Sugar are really all you need to enjoy a nice treat. I love both the regular and the golden Oreos, however for this recipe, because there is cocoa powder in the batter, I found myself preferring the golden over the regular for this recipe.

With your Cousin Covisha still out here, a lot of events this summer were canceled, and for a lot of people that includes the fair. Here in South Florida, the fair is in January, so there’s hope that things may be cleared up by then. However just in case, YOUR fair was canceled, you can still have fair food at home.

Cue in the Red Velvet Fried Oreos.

Ingredients

Vegetable Oil or Canola Oil

Oreos (any preference)

Pancake Mix - about a cup

1 egg

About 1/2 cup of water

TBSP of Cocoa Powder

Red Food Coloring

Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Start by freezing the Oreos first for about 2 to 3 hours. Once finished frying, they will be soft in the middle (but not runny) and it helps to prevent oil for leaking into the cookie. This step is optional however highly recommended.

  2. Preheat oil to medium high heat.

  3. In a bowl, mix pancake mix according to package directions. I personally made mine with water (about 1/2 cup) because I didn’t care for the taste of milk in mine.

  4. Add 1 egg (if the package instructions tell you to add eggs, don’t add another. If you’re using a Just Add Water pancake mix, add the egg), cocoa powder and food coloring to your discretion.

  5. Mix together well and coat Oreos with batter.

  6. Fry Oreos for about 2-3 minutes per side. The batter will have deepened in color.

  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

  8. When ready to serve, dust Oreos with powdered sugar.

  9. Enjoy!
