Monday Thoughts: Support

Mondays can be rough. Especially Mondays that come after a 3 day weekend filled with family, friends and fun. It can be hard to drag into work after a weekend reset, so I'm starting a Monday Morning Thoughts series in hopes of not allowing Mondays to be so... blah. Today, I'm on the topic of Support.

Life is not a solo act. It’s a huge collaboration, and we all need to assemble around the people who care about us and support us in times of strife.
— Tim Gunn

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of celebrating a good friend's birthday at Rehoboth Beach and it reminded me about the importance of supporting friends and family. Supporting during the high moments and supporting through the inevitable low moments. Even if that means just showing up. Too often, we're so caught up in our own life, that we forget to stop and be there for others, yet are frustrated when others are not there for us. I find that support is, generally, a two way street and when genuinely expressed, will be genuinely returned.

I've noticed that we (society) are in the  pattern of boasting about the amount of haters against us, rather than the amount of supporters we have with us. People are bragging about how they can "do it alone" and that they "don't need any help" as if it's something to be admired. Unfortunately, there is very little in life that can truly be done alone, which is why we need a solid support system.

Today's thought is just a reminder of how important our supporters are. For me, the bigger my support system gets, the bigger my dreams get, because I have the people to back me up and to assist with making it happen. I will be the first to say that my number of supporters far outweigh the number of "haters" I have. I have more people that I can rely on, call on, and lean on, if and when needed. More people to discuss ideas and goals with. More people to provide me with relevant criticism and ways to improve myself. More people in my corner, and personally, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Happy Monday!
