Protect Your Dream

Wow! The response I received from The Biggest Lie I've Ever Told has been overwhelming! Thank you all for the well wishes and the support that Mike and I have received on my "confession". Inevitably though, with the well wishes came the: "why am I just now finding out?" and "why didn't you tell me sooner?", which brings me to today's thought of: protecting your dream.

I'm all for transparency and being open, but to a limit. There's a thin line between transparency and saying too much and I definitely like to find the balance between the two. Telling your goals and dreams to others can be a great way to stay on track with your goals and to receive amazing sources of encouragement, but telling your dreams too soon or to the wrong people can open you up to doubt, toxicity and confusion. Here's why I think it's important to protect your dreams:

Your dreams are vulnerable & so are you

Generally, a dream or goal, starts with a single thought. From there you build on it, visualize it and start making steps to work toward it. This is an extremely sensitive and vulnerable stage and in this stage, your dreams are not ready for the outside opinions and influence of other people yet. In the beginning stages of a dream, too many opinions can cause too many distractions and deter you from YOUR original dream.  I think it's important to gain advice and support from those around you, but not while you're vulnerable. All advice is not good advice even if it comes from a loving and trusted source.

Everyone will not understand YOUR dream

As much as we would like to think that everyone would understand our dreams and goals, they won't... and that's okay. We live in a society where people need to see before they believe, so you can not expect others to understand your dreams, especially when they can not see the vision. Also, people believe what is possible based off their reality. If their reality is based off of safe decisions, then they won't understand a dream that's anything but safe.

Everyone is NOT on your team

I know we would like to believe that everyone is in our corner and that they have our best interest at heart, but unfortunately everyone is not your friend. Know that people do not owe you anything and if they're not your friend, they definitely don't owe you their support or well wishes. I believe that energy and words have power, and the last thing you need is unnecessary negative energy. As unfortunate as it is, there are people in your life that really don't want you to succeed, and telling your dreams to these people will open you up to energies that you don't need.

I think it's important for you to follow your passions and to make the unreachable, achievable. I think dreams are important for the inspiration of others. I believe that a dream, any dream, no matter how big or small, is worth fighting for and worth chasing.

Protect that.
