5 Last-Minute Memorial Plans That Won't Break Your Budget
So it's Friday afternoon, you're packing up to head home to play with your puppy and your coworker says: "Bye! See you Tuesday!"
And you're thinking: Oh, another vacation Becky? *insert side-eye*
And then it dawns on you that it's Memorial Day Weekend...
...and you have no plans.
If you're like me, and realized that you didn't plan to take full advantage of this 3-day weekend, then fret not! Below are 5 last-minute things you can do for Memorial Day weekend without breaking the bank:
1. Read
Did you really think that there was anything else that I was going to put first? I mean come-on, I'm reading a book while I'm typing this. Skills, kay.
You know that novel you been keep hearing great reviews for, but haven't bought yet. Go ahead to your local bookstore (or library) and snag a copy for some weekend reading. According to Personal Creations, the average adult reads about 300 words per minute, so a book like I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings (my current read) which has bout 75,000+ words, should take about 4 hours to read. And if you don't eat, sleep or move for the next 72 hours, you should be able to knock out about 18 books this weekend. I'm just saying.
2. Clean
Now reading is on the top of my list because that's what I would rather be doing, but cleaning is second, because that what I'll actually be doing instead. *looks at fiance with sad puppy eyes in hopes that he'll let me go to the beach and read while he cleans the entire house.*
If you're like us, there really isn't much time to deep clean throughout the week. Monday through Friday, life catches up and the laundry starts piling up, the dog smells funny and the dishes haven't seen the light of day since last Christmas.
Okay. That was a bit much.
But our house needs to be cleaned from top to bottom, and this is the extended weekend to do it. The weather is going to be pretty crappy this weekend here in SoFla, so might as well spend it indoors getting the house clean. It's going to be all hands on deck in the Porter/McGill residence, The Pup included. If I have to clean instead of read, then he can at least pick up his toys and wash his blankets.
3. Netflix-Binge/Movie Marathon
Girl. Get you all the junk food your body will allow you to safely enjoy, find some liquor/wine/juice for hydration and get your Netflix on!
I don't care what no one says, there is NOTHING like a lazy day of not doing anything all day but watching TV or movies. *sings* I don't care, I love it! Maybe it's because I don't watch that much TV that when I actually do, I feel the need to watch allll day. But if you have no plans, you've read your 18 books and your house is clean, binge on. I'm rooting for you.
4. At Home Spa-Day
Mani. Pedi. Facial Mask. Body Scrub. Need I say more?
5. DIY Projects
While you have this extended weekend and no plans, use this time to try out those DIY projects that you have pinned on Pinterest... for a year.
The beauty of DIY is that it doesn't deplete your saving account, but it gives you something to do that you can keep. For instance, my hand-painted globe cost me no more than $30 and it took me two days to complete. Plenty of time after you've read 18 books, deep cleaned your entire house, Netflix binged and did your nails. :)
If all else fails, you can always crash someone's Memorial Day BBQ or pack it for a quick staycation in town or nearby, but if you're looking for things to do around your house, these ideas will definitely be able to keep you occupied for the next 72 hours.
